News: Black Country Industrial Cluster to Lead on Energy Advice Service

The Black Country Industrial Cluster has been selected by the West Midlands Combined Authority and Department of Energy Security and Net Zero to lead on the delivery of a new Business Energy Advice Service (BEAS) in the Black Country.

BEAS will offer free energy assessments to all Black Country businesses and grants of up to 50% of capital costs for energy efficiency investments such as new production machinery, lighting equipment or controls.

The energy assessments are very straightforward and confidential processes which give companies impartial advice on how to reduce energy bills and often result in simple recommendations that can save companies thousands of pounds a year. One Black Country business has already saved nearly £800,000 on bills of over £3M a year.

The assessors recommended by Black Country Industrial Cluster are experienced energy engineers who have been providing these services across the region for many years.

£25M Funding for this programme was secured by the Black Country Industrial Cluster for the whole West Midlands, so we’re delighted to be leading delivery in the Black Country itself. The programme includes additional Shared Prosperity Funds being contributed by Black Country Local Authorities, which bring the total to almost £35M, and it is being delivered in partnership with Coventry City Council and Aston University.

This is a national pilot available only in this region, and if successful it will be rolled out nationally in 2025. Funds are limited so it’s important to apply soon, before they run out.
